Abstarct – This IR-based home automation system employs an Arduino microcontroller to wirelessly control household appliances using a standard infrared remote control. An IR receiver module, typically the TSOP1838, detects the incoming signal and sends the decoded hexadecimal values to the Arduino’s digital input pins. The Arduino processes these specific codes to trigger corresponding output pins connected to the transistor-based driver circuits for the various attached loads. For the light, fan, and water pump, NPN transistors function as switches that energize relay coils to manage high-voltage AC or DC power safely. When the Arduino sends a HIGH signal to the transistor’s base, it enters saturation, allowing current to flow through the relay and activate the load. The water pump follows the same logic, utilizing a dedicated driver to ensure the microcontroller remains electrically isolated from the pump’s power source. To operate the main gate, the Arduino sends a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) signal to a servo motor to rotate it to a specified angle. The servo motor’s power is managed via a transistor or a dedicated power rail to prevent current spikes from resetting the Arduino board. Users can toggle each device independently by pressing different buttons on the remote, providing a convenient way to manage home infrastructure remotely. This setup offers an efficient, modular approach to automation, combining simple transistor switching with precise servo control for a comprehensive smart home experience.
