Abstarct – This smart dustbin project operates using an Arduino Uno as the central controller to manage a touchless waste disposal system. When a hand or object approaches the bin, the IR sensor detects the proximity and sends a signal to the Arduino, which then triggers the servo motor to rotate and lift the lid automatically. Inside the bin, an ultrasonic sensor (commonly used for depth) monitors the waste level, and the Arduino calculates the fill status in real-time. This information is continuously updated and displayed on a 16×2 LCD screen, showing whether the bin is empty, half-full, or full. If the waste reaches a predefined maximum level, the Arduino activates a buzzer to provide an audible alert, signaling that the bin needs to be emptied. Once the external IR sensor no longer detects an object, the servo motor returns to its original position, closing the lid to maintain hygiene. The integration of these components ensures a sanitary, hands-free experience while preventing overflow through constant monitoring. This automated cycle repeats seamlessly, making waste management more efficient and user-friendly for smart home or office environments.
